Only You

by Kathleen Higham

The years crept slowly by
But suddenly I was old
My youthfulness betrayed me
Along with a heart so cold.

This soul was lost and lonely
When an empty life I made
A million tears and wasted years
Until at last I prayed.

When I was young I knew
Believed in all I'd do
When I was young, I was young
I had no thoughts of You.

In my mind I question
As I wonder, wonder why
How I lived through all the pain
Knowing someday I would die.

A sinful life before me
Has truly taken its toll
But You have come, You have come
And filled a broken soul.

When I was young I knew
Believed in all I'd do
When I was young, I was young
I had no thoughts of You.

So now I've read Your story
My heart I gave to You
My silver hair, a crown to me
There is nothing I can do.

Falling down upon my knees
I cried a broken plea
A rugged Cross, a bloody path
You gave Your life for me.

When I was young I knew
Believed in all I'd do
When I was young, I was young
I had no thoughts of You.

Each morning as I awake
I call Your Holy name
It touches me, releases me
Washed away my shame.

Now I wait in wonder
I am old, but I am new
Saved from hell, a broken heart
Having thoughts of only You.
