Broken

by Kathleen Higham

Growth grows in broken places
What a horrifying thought
We might cringe to think it
But Jesus, He did not.

Though not one bone broken
Our Savior was crucified
His soul was with His Father
Praying forgiveness as He died.

Growth grows in broken places
Birth begins with shocking light
There is nothing stable in this life
It is a most excruciating fight.

Failures come to break a heart
Then our courage fades away
Trials, loss, so much sorrow
Pain often begins our day.

Growth grows in broken places
Through adversity in our lives
Tears may fall relentlessly, but
In them our Lord thrives.

Jesus cried, cried out to God
His Spirit was never broken
When He sighed aloud, "It is done"
The most powerful words ever spoken.

Growth grows in broken places
Discouraging as that may be
This painful process in life began
When Christ died to set us free.

Courage comes through God alone
When at His feet we finally fall
Broken places are healed at last
By the One who gave His all.
