Reflection of Christ

by David Vanderpool

When I am asked to give that which I cannot seem to give
and I am looking forward to a rest
When those who ask could surely do the task without my help
when what is asked is something I protest
When I'm exhausted from the hard demands of daily life
when circumstance weighs heavy on my mind
When I have tried my best to treat all people fair and yet
the treatment I received has been unkind
When I have been offended by a person close to me
or I have been accused and lied about
When someone chose to violate a trust that we had shared
a person of whom I had ne'er a doubt
When any of these situations stare me in the face
and in my humanness I cannot stand
Not only does my Lord and Savior know the way I feel
he lets me know that I am in His hand
He gives to me the strength to rise above the circumstance
a power that comes only when I yield
It's then that I can show the love of God to other men
and Gods reflection in me is revealed

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
1 Peter 4: 7-9
