We hope it will not rain today
We hope the sun will not decay
We hope for peacefulness to occupy the heart
Whose cisterns filled with earthly detritus convey
The hope of brighter things
This longing shines then fades away
To break the hopefulness apart
And disappointment brings.
Within the human way for all
There is the mystery of a call
That in the steely silence agitates within
A still small inner voice where heavenly raindrops fall
Watering the heavenly soil
Green shoots appear however small
Among the strangling weeds of sin
Foretaste of Godly oil.
This new and living way is now
A certain hope that will avow
Where resurrection's perfect purpose overcame
Death and the grave. This evidence to us, endow
The ending of our fears
A glory resting on His brow
Where Sure and Certain is His Name
The healing of our tears.
