One Out of Ten Gave Thanks

by Margaret Cagle

As Jesus entered a village one day,
He met ten lepers along the way.
They stood afar off, but they did not hide.
"Jesus! Have mercy on us!" they cried.

Jesus then said to the leprous ten,
"Show yourselves to the priest, dear men."
It came to pass as they went their way,
They were cleansed of leprosy that very day.

One turned back when he saw he was well.
He glorified God, and then he fell
At the feet of Jesus down on his face.
He gave Jesus thanks in that very place.

"Were not ten cleansed?" asked Jesus then,
"But where are the other nine healed men?"
Friend, this is the sad part of the story.
They did not return to give God the glory.

O Christian, sometimes upon God we call.
We pray in earnest as on our knees we fall.
Then when God meets our special need,
We should remember to be thankful indeed.
