New

by Michael Beatty

When God created the world it was a mass,
Of nothing at all but vapors and gas.
Blackness, it seemed, was the only thing around.
There was no sea, nor was there any ground.
God decided that this was not right,
So He shouted out loud, "Let there be light!"
God was pleased with what he had done,
And that was the end of day number one.
The second day came and God made the skies and the seas.
And on the third day, He created the land, grass, and trees.
Day number four was an exciting one.
That's when God formed the moon and the sun.
The fifth day was filled with lots of glee.
That's when God made the animals on land, the birds of the sky,
And the fish in the sea.
Then on the sixth day, God finished His plan.
That's when He made Eve from Adam, the first woman and man.
On the seventh day, God decided to rest.
He was proud of His work, and loved humans the best.
