I Like The Old Hymns

by Margaret Cagle

In some of our great churches today,
The music has somewhat changed.
Old hymns became a little outdated,
Modern music and hymns were arranged.

It seems to me that many old hymns
Maybe were anointed from up above.
It seems as if maybe angels helped
To write hymns of God's great love.

Which new hymns can take the place
Of good hymns like "Amazing Grace,"
"The Old Rugged Cross," or "Just As I am,"
Or a beautiful hymn like "Face to Face"?

It's hard to believe that the new songs
Will uproot all those good old hymns.
I think the old hymns are here to stay
Because they really have sturdy stems.
