Suffering Shame for Jesus' Name

by Margaret Cagle

Have you ever had to suffer shame
For proclaiming the Gospel in Jesus' name?
Some Christians are mocked and criticized sadly,
But usually most are not treated badly.

Some are "laughed at" for preaching on the street,
Or witnessing for Christ to those they meet,
But not many are tortured or suffer shame
For standing for Christ and preaching His name.

Down through the ages, martyrs have died
For believing on Christ, whom they never denied.
They've been sawed in two and burned at the stake
For living their lives for Jesus' sake.

Jesus' apostles had no complaints or gripes
When they preached Jesus and were beaten with stripes.
Like them, count it wothy to suffer shame
And rejoice when we sufffer in Jesus' name.
