Patches

by Kathleen Higham

I saw her from a distance
Her eyes were all aglow
Snap, snap, snapping photos
Santa sang out Ho, Ho, Ho.

The children gathered near him
As excitement filled the air
Unimaginable was this vision
More than my eyes could bear.

Hospital beds were everywhere
Then those in hospital clothes
This certainly is like a hospital
But one thing everyone knows.

The Lord resides in this place
And Patches is its name
All the people standing there
Felt His presence when He came.

A parade of joy filled faces
Forgetting every affliction
It was God, so very God
This exquisitely holy depiction.

Patches is His gift of love
A love only He could send
Where tears and fears are shared
While helping children mend.

There I stood in complete awe
When a tiny hand touched me
I held those precious fingers
Once again God let me see.

Unfailing is His love for them
Their little hearts carefree
Patches, a home away from home
An absolutely perfect place to be.

Luke 9:48
"Anyone who takes care of a little child like this is caring for me."
