Training A Child

by Margaret Cagle

Do others call your dear child a brat?
Does he hit the dog and abuse the cat?
Train your child in the way he should go,
Or later he may bring you sorrow and woe.

Training your child right is very smart.
From this training, he should not depart.
He'll remember his training when he's old.
This in the Book of Proverbs, we're told.

Yes, sparing the rod can spoil the child.
You don't want your child to act wild.
To give "tough love" may be what you need
To train him to obey and the rules to heed.

If you love your child, you'll chasten him too.
Correct him and tell him what's right to do.
Just train him correctly from the start,
So he won't grow up and break your heart.
