The Wedding

by Don Sicklesteel © 2006

I give you possesion of something very special in my life,
When you take my lovely daughter to be your wedded wife.
I'm thankful for the years I've had to watch her life unfold,
For the many precious memories that I'll remember when I'm old.
She's always made me smile, to brighten many a day,
And she knew I'd always be there, to help her along the way.
I've loved her when she was dirty from her head down to her toes,
I've loved her when she modeled, and wore those pretty clothes.
I've held her when she broke her arm and gave us such a fright,
I was there when that fever kept her up all through the night.
There was always something special between us, in everything we did,
I was always so proud of her and glad she was my kid.
I've lead her in God's pathway as so many times we'd pray,
So when she'd grow older, she wouldn't go astray.
Now, as a man of God, you take responsibility for her life,
As on this day you'll take her, for your lovely wedded wife.
I know it isn't far, as with her, I'll walk down that aisle,
But with a lump in my throat and tear filled eyes, it'll seem a country mile.
Yes, I entrust you with my treasure, someone special in my life,
And I give you my lovely daughter, to be your wedded wife.
