God Knows

by Kathleen Higham

Never, ever in this life
Has evil come so near
Comprehension escapes me
With horror, grief, fear.

Oh my Lord I cry to You
Have mercy on these ones
Broken bodies tossed away
They were daughters, sons.

Never, ever in my life
Have I seen a catastrophe
They weep and plead for help
Their heartache for all to see.

Oh my Lord I cry to You
This burden hard to bear
Devastation so unspeakable
As death lingers in the air.

Never, ever in my life
Tears come, my eyes close
With finality, yet certainty
These people, well-God knows.

God knows every single soul
That breathed a final breath
Haiti, Haiti, speak His name
For He has conquered death.

Job 13:15
Though He slay me, yet I will trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.
