Dying Daily To Self

by Margaret Cagle

When unkind words are spoken to us,
We hurt and cry inside, I'm sure,
But if we die to self everyday,
Such grief we will better endure.

Dying to self is a Christian trait
We all need to learn to master.
A dead self really cannot get hurt
When circumstances reach a disaster.

When unkind things are said to me,
I really have to just let it go.
Why let it eat away at my heart
And cause me great sorrow and woe?

There're no misunderstandings in Heaven.
No hurtful words will ever be said.
Nothing to hurt us will enter there.
God's infinite love will reign instead.
