Faithful To The End

by Margaret Cagle

Grandpa lay there sick and dying
With his hound dog by his bed.
The nurse eyed the dog with horror.
"Get this nasty dog out!" she said.

"But our dear grandpa requested
His hound dog to be by his side."
"That's too bad!" replied the nurse.
"This request has to be denied."

A grandson ushered the hound dog out,
And he howled a mournful sad cry.
Grandpa heard his beloved sad dog,
And upon his pillow he began to sigh.

The doctor paid him a home visit.
Grandpa said, "They took Old Butch away."
The doctor said, "Son, go get the dog.
By his bed this dog can surely stay."

Old Butch then entered the sick room,
Taking his place by his master's side,
And there the faithful hound dog lay
Until his dear loving master died.

Christian, may we all be as faithful
To our Master until our life's end.
May we stay very close to our Savior
'Til we see our Master and Friend.
