Would I Know

by Kathleen Higham

Would I know the glory of His love?
If I didn't choose to ask Him in
Would I have fallen into a dark abyss?
If He had not washed away my sin.

Would I see the gift of this life?
If I never felt the pain of death
Would I know the grace of my Lord?
If He had not given me His breath.

Would I feel the warmth of the sun?
If Jesus Christ had chosen not to die
Would I know the pain of His sorrow?
If the Father hadn't burdened Him to cry.

Would I hear the angels sing of Him?
If I closed my ears to His Word
Would I walk the earth not to know?
If His cry to me went sadly unheard.

Would I smell the nectar of a flower?
If my senses turned from a simple pleasure
Would I long to feel more and more?
If He did not impart this lovely treasure.

Would I have nestled in my mother's arms?
If He had not loved, held me first
Would I rest between His strong shoulders?
If He was not crucified for the cursed.

Would I know the glory of His love?
If I did not choose to ask Him in
Would I know when I breathe my last?
Only then shall my life with Christ begin.

Deuteronomy 33:12
"The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him,
Who shelters him all the day long;
And he shall dwell between His shoulders."
