Watching Our Words

by Margaret Cagle

Words in a child's song I heard one day
Were "be careful little mouth what you say."
These words are so scriptural and true.
We need to be careful what we say and do.

In our speech, let's be humble and meek,
For we'll give account for idle words we speak.
By our words, we can be justified, you see,
And words may very well condemn you and me.

Words we say can go to many hearing ears,
Causing bright smiles or maybe bitter tears.
We can hurt someone by the words we say,
So be careful and speak in a very kind way.

Sometimes saying nothing can be very wise.
Words may condemn us in others' ears and eyes.
Our words may make us look like a fool,
So sometimes silence makes us seem cool.

Strive to please Jesus in all you say and do,
And to God and to your fellow men be true.
Let the Holy Spirit lead you day by day.
Let Him guide you in all you do and say.
