Is It Over Yet?

by Kathleen Higham

When I was so very young
I could not wait to be old
Wishing, always wishing for
The next day to unfold.

Looking forward to the future
Wondering what's around the bend
Not captured by the story
But impatient for the end.

Is it over yet, over yet?
The question hangs in the air
Running with a childlike faith
Believing life would be fair.

Time, time can be a robber
When tomorrow comes unprepared
The one you loved most of all
Forgot how much you cared.

Every moment becomes a burden
You are so completely undone
Tears fall silent in the night
Then dry to the rising sun.

Is it over yet, over yet?
Dragging through another day
Regrets tug deep at your heart
Just trying to make your way.

The Lord, He waits so patiently
Then carries you through the sorrow
For today is assuredly over, but
Now we are faced with tomorrow.

Oh, it is never over with God
No matter where you may go
Overwhelmed, yes He allowed it
But this one thing I know.

When life becomes unbearable
These words you must not forget
Come to Me all you who labor
Precious one, it is not over yet.
