Worth It

by Kathleen Higham

As I walked, I spoke to You
Animals scurried all around me
Then suddenly she stepped out
This beautiful deer I see.

And only for that moment
She stood so very still
I held my breath and watched her
As my eyes began to fill.

Only God could make this creature
Her eyes darted everywhere
Standing in awe of her perfection
She knew that I was there.

In my head a psalm appeared
A perfect time to find
The deer pants for the water
And I played it in my mind.

Then gracefully she bolted
As if she ran to You
I pictured the stream flowing
Knowing what the deer would do.

Lowering her head in elegance
The water is fresh and cold
A thirst is satisfied again
As the psalm begins to unfold.

As the deer pants for the water
I thirst inside my soul
Drinking in everlasting life
You complete me, make me whole.

Oh, let me see her one more time
For the deer has become the story
And the striking beauty of her life
To show the world Your Glory.
