A Mountain Morning

by Robert Hedrick

Slowly I stepped out on the porch with my bible and a cup of coffee in hand,
Into a refreshing mountain morning and a marvelous view of the rolling land.
My senses began to come alive, as my eyes fed to them this God given scene,
And as I stood there, for that moment, the whole world appeared to be serene.

In most every direction, I could see mountain peaks reaching toward the sky,
Appearing to almost be high enough to make contact with clouds passing by.
They give a different scene with each passing season that comes their way,
Every one of them are just as beautiful as the one I've observed this day.

I sat down and opened The Book that explains just how this first came about,
Telling us that as God put His creation in place, there's nothing He left out.
Although man has left his mark on this world, God's beauty is still around,
For on every morning that I come out onto this porch, for me, it is found.

These sights I see have all been here for longer than we've been made aware,
When the first settlers crossed over these hills, they were all right there.
While the nights can be cold and the weather will change with little warning,
For me, there will always be something very special about a mountain morning.
