I Saw Me

by Kathleen Higham

I saw me today, it hurt
Felt the heart of my Lord break
Knowing in absolute wonder why
He did everything for my sake.

I saw me today, ashamed
Coveting a sin I thought hid deep
Crept to the surface of my soul
Still the desire there to keep.

I saw me today, felt cheap
The gray and ugly smudge was there
Did I think He wouldn't know?
My heart breaks, the sin laid bare.

I saw me today, redeemed
As God's words flowed to the page
The evil one reduced to nothing
Leaves me in his cowardly rage.

I saw me today, revealed
Raised my hands to Him in song
Oh how I have hurt You Lord
Yet, broken, broken for You, I long.

I saw me today, a sinner
Gave my heart to Him to break
But, His heart broke more than mine
He did everything for my sake.
