The Lawyer

by Kathleen Higham

Commitment first, then passion
Inspired by a Godly awe
One so bright and hopeful
Garners respect for the law.

There is desire to defend others
Providing a most basic need
Words written by our Father
Commandments we must heed.

A counselor, a judge, a servant
Who honors all that is just
Then filled with absolute wonder
When we look to them in trust.

Commitment first, then passion
The lawyer will present the plea
With a prayer for judgment
For only our God can see.

Into the heart of the counselor
Who speaks eloquently this day
Honor shall come to the lawyer
That would emulate His way.

Hold these ones in high esteem
Knowing God has surely defined
The amazing gift of wisdom
That dwells in the lawyer's mind.

Commitment first, then passion
Where justice is honor bound
Hold these ones in high esteem
When you hear the gavel pound.
