Why

by Donna Hendrix

Why, you ask as your heart is breaking
Why has my loved one from me been taken
I don't understand why I should suffer so
Can you tell me please; I want to know

I am a Christian; a child of God
I've tried to follow the path that Jesus trod
Why must I live like this day after day
My heart is broken and filled with dismay

In the stillness of the early morn
When all is quiet and the day is born
I heard my Savior gently say to me,
My Son also suffered to set you free

You weren't promised a pain free life
But I promise to be with you through the strife
You weren't told you'd never have grief
But you are assured that I will provide relief

You weren't promised there would never be sorrow
But I will be constantly be by your side through every tomorrow
My hope is for you to be like my Son
He suffered much for my will to be done

It doesn't matter why you have suffered such a loss
Knowing why won't prevent you from carrying your cross
Please know that I want only the best for you
And I will always be here to see you through

Learn from life's lessons that have been sent your way
That you may help others throughout your days
Let your light shine with my loving grace
That when others see you; they see God's face
