Silent Night

by Donna Hendrix

God sent us snowflakes today from his home afar
Tiny white fragments of heaven floating through the stars
Crocheted by the hand of God as He sits in heaven afar

They softly and quietly covered the landscape
Laced together in a snowy white drape
That for a few hours offered a sweet escape

As day fell to night the silence was enhanced
I was reminded of a Silent Night years ago perchance
As on snow covered ground the moonbeams danced

It was a silent night, a holy night
There was no snow but there was the Light
All was calm as the star shone bright

The young virgin gave birth to a sweet child
Angels sang praises in glorious song all the while
To honor this special infant so tender and mild

Sweet holy child sleep in heavenly peace
While the shepherds and wise men look to you for release
And the choirs of angels did steadily increase

For you our King have come to us today
Our Savior who lay in a manger filled with hay
Emmanuel! Has come to be with His people today!

And now on this snowy peaceful night
There still shines that star so bright
And today that tiny baby is still His people's guiding Light!
