For You and I

by Robert Hedrick

He was lifted out of a cradle up onto a cross, just for you and I,
Then it was for our sinful cause only, that He was willing to die.
From the cross He's put into a tomb and for three days He stayed,
He arose, returned to His disciples, as this miracle is displayed.

He remained a while, proving to doubters, He'd been crucified,
When they see the holes and nail prints, then they are satisfied.
Instructing them to teach all nations, that is from coast to coast,
Baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son and Holy Ghost.

He descended back to heaven, to His place by His Father's side,
Wanting to hear the acceptance from those for whom He had died.
Now He intercedes for these as they unwillingly commit wrongs,
Letting The Father know that it is to Him, each of them belongs.

Jesus shed His robe of royalty to enter a world loaded with sin,
Then, because of His coming, it would never be the same again.
Now we sing of Him in the cradle and of His dying on the cross,
To leave this life without Jesus, is to suffer the greatest loss.
