I Blessed You

by Kathleen Higham

"I blessed you," He said
"I know it," I cried
Over fifty years gone by
But the memory burns inside.

A tender heart was battered
Recalling those hurtful years
It has surfaced for a reason
To think of it brings tears.

What good can come of this?
To retrace each step of pain
Well, it embraced my career
To help those thought, insane.

"I blessed you," He said
"I know it," I cried
Hearts scarred and shattered
Renewed when Christ died.

Renewed, restored and rescued
"I blessed you," He said
A scarred heart hopes, because
"I blessed you," He said.
