Obeying Rules

by Margaret Cagle

Every year about this time,
My mind wanders back to school.
At the start of a new school year,
Students are conscious of each rule.

Then as the school year continues,
And as the weeks begin to pass,
Students tend to get careless
And break more rules in class.

Most teachers recognize this,
And discipline, they must keep.
Sometimes they have to be tough
Or much confusion, they will reap.

When a sinner is saved by grace,
He wants to serve God with zeal.
He eagerly wants to please Him.
He has a vision that is so real.

As the Christian serves longer,
Sometimes he gets side-tracked,
And he forgets his divine mission
When that old Satan has attacked.

When Christians break God's rules
And fall into shame and sin,
We also break the heart of God,
And He has to chasten us then.

We need to keep up the faith,
And for Jesus, finish the race.
Let's not break our Savior's heart.
He has saved us by His grace.
