Time

by Kathleen Higham

What is this life You gave us
Why do we fear it's passing
And why is time so critical
When You promised us life everlasting

And we are filled with deep emotion
Our hearts are not at rest
And everything seems so urgent
Our lives are a constant quest

But God provided for this dilemma
Like a clock that's winding down
When our bodies slowly meet our mind
Then the golden years we've found

And I can see the peace in them
And wisdom at it's best
With crinkled eyes and trembling hands
The world gave them a test

And they have much to show us
As their speech and thoughts come slow
But the life they lived before us
Gave them knowledge and they know

If we could just slow a bit
And sit and talk awhile
The gift that they impart to us
Is more than just their smile

With fine hair turned to silver
And as fragile as they appear
Remember when you look to them
In time they'll be your mirror

For God has so perfected
Our time and how we grow
But the time we share together
Is only for Him to know

Although our time has been preset
It's not time that we should fear
If we use it in a Godly way
His face will be there in the mirror
