The Nurse

by Kathleen Higham

When you see these tiny babies
It takes your breath away
As nurses work so frantically
To give them one more day

And they will work for hours
With incredible skill and love
And often they will seek their God
Praying for miracles from above

And amazingly they see it happen
When science meets God's demand
And life bursts through these little ones
As they rest in the palm of your hand

For Godly is the job of a nurse
As they pray for the gift of life
Where technology is a constant quest
And it is often a day of strife

But when the day is winding down
And precious hearts are beating strong
Mothers and Fathers cry their silent tears
But in heaven angels sing their song

And the nurse is oh so thankful
For today a baby will live
But tomorrow another battle will come
And the nurse will just give and give

Until the day arrives at last
When hearts are no longer sad
A beautiful little infant leaves
In the arms of Mom and Dad
