A Florida White Christmas

by Margaret Cagle

Once upon a Christmas Eve,
Back several years ago,
Right here in northern Florida,
It strangely started to snow.

It snowed and snowed so much,
Traffic almost came to a halt.
Drivers could only creep along,
For the roads, there was no salt.

We were not equipped to handle
Such a very tremendous snowfall.
Most people did not know how
To drive in that snow at all.

Christmas was the very next day,
And it came on Sunday too.
Many could not drive to church.
In attendance, churches had a few.

Many children made snowmen
When they were allowed to play.
The plastic Florida snowmen
Became obsolete on that day.

Then the thought occurred to me.
Did God look down on us and say,
"I'll give these Floridians snow
To enjoy on this Christmas Day."?

We had our own white Christmas,
But we wanted the snow to go away,
So for beautiful Florida sunshine,
We very earnestly began to pray.
