The Highway to God

by Kathleen Higham

If You walk the highway to God
How many shoes might you wear
It is infinitely impossible to number
Would your heart take on such a dare

For the highway to God is a war zone
And suffering may stand at your door
And nothing prepares you for battle
As your mind sees a vision of horror

And the road that leads to salvation
Was traveled by a man beaten and slain
It was bloodied sandals that carried Him
On that day that was filled with pain

How many shoes might you wear
If you walk and follow His lead
He will take you to life everlasting
Where not even shoes will you need

For the highway to God is a straight path
But we take wrong turns in the road
Then we're lost in a maze of confusion
As we carry a heavy load

But if you walk the highway to God
You'll walk till your feet become bare
Remembering each step that you've taken
And He'll meet you and wait for you there
