Grains Of Sand

by Kathleen Higham

It's hard to understand this Lord
For a son and a brother went to sleep
And our hearts are heavy with sorrow
But he wasn't ours to keep

And this life that You have given us
Is of endless grains of sand
And our life is pouring from them
As each grain sifts through Your hand

And we will never ever know
When the final grain will fall
And timeless hands will lift us up
On that day You come to call

And the one that is sitting at Your feet
He was my brother and my friend
But Lord I wasn't ready
For my brother's life to end

And I am weeping on my knees
And my family reaches out to You
As the grains of sand are pouring down
But You promised to see us through

For we know You have an awesome plan
And grains of sand are just a number
And Your hand has been the sifter
But The Father wakes us from our slumber

And never again will we fall asleep
Life everlasting is Your gift
Forever we will live with You
When there is no more sand to sift
