I asked the Lord "why?"
And he held me to HIs breast.
"My child, never question my sovereign will,
For I know what's best."
He told me that He knew all things
And that my heart was prone to fail.
I asked Him why again.
This time I began to wail.
He captured my tears,
Put them in a glass,
And held me up to look at HIm.
His face was as shining brass.
And His hairs were woolen:
His eyes a flame of fire.
Alas, I felt faith come alive.
And no longer did I inquire.
I put my faith in the Son of Man,
Who is the King of Kings.
My doubts and fears were relieved.
Thus, a wealth of peace one look did bring.
