Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted

by Annie B © 2021

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted -
See Him dying on the cross.
It is Christ that man rejected
Paying man's sinful, evil cost.

Tell them you hear Him groaning
Knowing there'd never be grief like this.
Through fear his friends disowned him
Leaving Him in His distress.

Many hands were raised to wound Him
No one would intervene to save.
But the deepest stroke that pierced Him
Was the stroke that Justice gave.

You who think of sin quite lightly,
Or suppose evil as great,
You did not view His nature rightly
Nor did you see His Godly state.

Here we have a firm foundation
For the refuge of the lost.
Christ is the Rock of our salvation
Not measuring man's sin as loss.

Lamb of God came for sinners wounded
Sacrificing to cancel guilt.
No one shall ever be confounded
If on Him their hope was built.
