The Very Thought of You

by Annie B © 2021

Jesus, the very thought of You,
With sweetness feels my breast;
But sweeter far Your face to view
And in Your presence rest.

Voice cannot sing, nor heart can flame
The memory of Him we find;
A sweeter sound than Your blessed Name
By love, God gave mankind.

The hope of every contrite heart;
And the joy of all the meek;
To those who have fallen, how kind you are;
How blessed are those who seek.

Those who find Him finds His bliss
That no tongue or pen can show.
The love of Jesus - is all that is
For none but His loved ones know.

Jesus, our hearts to only Thou;
Knowing what our prizes will be.
Jesus, is our King of glory
Now and through eternity.

When once You visited my heart,
Then, Your truth began to shine
While earthly vanities depart
That kindles Your love divine.

Jesus, light of above and below –
Your fount of living fire,
Surpassing all earthly joys we know
And all we can pray for and desire.

You alone – may our tongues confess –
Your wondrous love we adore
Those seeking You – themselves enflamed
To seek You more and more

You, Son of God, may our voices bless
You who we love alone
And forever in our lives express
The image of You alone.
