He Paid

by Paul Purday

Far beyond all galaxies and reach of time
Beyond all stars, God entered here
He shared with us divinity sublime
And would in human clothes appear.

As sharing our humanity, He would
Enter in earth's darkest place to be
Where grossest evil was exchanged for good
And all, will His salvation see.

We, who are washed, and in His blood are clean
Can sometimes still feel guilt and shame
This power of darkness, would the Cross demean
And as our own, those feelings claim.

'I took it all' our Lord could kindly say
'I paid for it, and it was mine
Sins, guilt and shame forever faraway
Beyond where human minds define.'

So He has paid it all! Nothing remains
Our debt is gone and we are clear
We see the utter shattering of our chains
While love removed the power of fear!

And in our sorrows He would enter in
For He has borne greater than all
He feels our sadness and our piercing pain
Into His loving arms we fall.
