Elusive

by Kathleen Higham

You can see inside my heart
I fear the darkness there
As I reach out to my child
Her elusiveness is hard to bear

Every morning I cry to You
I plead for You to intercede
My love for her is boundless
And I feel a crushing need

But You know all my sorrow
In these disappointing years
Her elusiveness still holds her
As my mind is filled with fears

I need to walk a different path
And dwell in that secret place
As I pray for my child in earnest
Then seek Your loving face

For You have a promise for me
As long as I am on this earth
You have carried and protected me
Even then the hour of her birth

That moment of encompassing love
It could not have been more clear
The gift of life I held to my heart
And the lusty cries I still hear

But I remained elusive too
And I wasted all these years
Obsessively loving my little girl
Then crying so many tears

You can see inside my heart
Please fill me with Your light
Elusive me elusive her
Dear God please make us right
