Wretched, but Loved

by Zimuzo Onah

She sat across the still lake
Her eyes through the woods did rake,
And then closed, unwilling to partake
Of the splendid parade of daybreak
Her heart spoke of sorrow and ache;
Her life was nothing but fake.

Tears trickled down as she bowed,
Painting the rocks with great cloud
The silent atmosphere sang aloud,
With melodies of regrets avowed
She felt as though filth did enshroud
Her soul, that which was once proud

Hers was a story of such darkness,
All her life she wandered aimless,
Lost and empty, full of bitterness
Nothing, not even her drunkenness
Could fill up the void so bottomless
She was definitely far from flawless.

"Oh! If I could but find any solace,
A lasting bliss which I could trace"
She sighed, longing for an embrace
All she ever wanted was a place,
An end to the weary and disgrace,
A beckoning into life and grace.

Suddenly, a voice within her echoed,
Jolting her from the dreary episode
It was a sound of hope that flowed
From her Creator, high and hallowed;
A message of truth that showed,
The map to freedom's abode.

She knew without a doubt,
That it was the only way out
All she had to do was just believe,
In the one who had borne her grief
For only then could she receive,
All she ever wanted- eternal relief.

Then came a glary light from above,
A stillness descended like a dove
All the pain and sorrows, it drove;
Drowning her heart with such love,
That exceeded the worth of any trove
Bringing an end to all the rove

She drank of that sweet light,
That brought great vigor and sight
She never felt so clean, so accepted
On her mind was this fact shoved;
Though she was once wretched,
She had always been loved
