Onward Path

Could we, if crowds were cheering our acclaim?
Proceed with heads unturned, unmoved by fame?
Would we, a humble donkey mount and ride?
A steed that would not pander to our pride?

His way we followed, there the likeness ends
As He, the Son of Man, the hill ascends
And much unpopularity will face
By driving traders from the Temple Place.

The hatred of religious leaders showed
As from them 'righteous' anger overflowed
And a betrayal would confront His path
As He then faced a court of 'righteous' wrath.

His way, (we so well know), the story's course
On Him, a suffering pathway they would force
Until, transfixed and nailed upon a Tree
Astounding image for eternity.

Bruised and battered, pouring His life-blood
Pierced and alone, their tears were like a flood
As they beheld Him there, God's perfect Son
Who breathed His last, His suffering Work was done.

And from His grave, (we so well know), He rose
The upward path of God, His victory shows
The resurrected Christ's explosive power
Eternity defined within that hour.
