THE LORD’S MERCY SEAT

by Kristine Stanton © 2024

The good LORD sits upon a Throne—
a Mercy Seat of grace.
A place where all the world awaits
its sins to be erased.

"And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold. . .And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be." (Exodus 25:17–20, KJV).

The Mercy Seat of our LORD God
is made of purest gold,
and at both ends are cherubim
for Yahweh to behold.

These cherubim have outstretched wings—
stretched forth— they are on high.
They cover our LORD's Mercy Seat,
and guard with watchful eyes.

The LORD our God sits on this Throne
and to His right, His Son—
the Son who fought a darkened world—
a battle He had won.

'Tis at this Holy Place of God
that we may make amends—
a place where sinners may approach
the LORD God who transcends.

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need," (Hebrews 4:16, KJV).

Come one, come all, with contrite hearts—
come kneel before God's Throne.
Let's gather to confess our wrongs—
the sinful seeds we've sown.

Let's seek the LORD's benevolence
for every wrong we've done.
Let's make amends and ask for grace—
and give thanks to His Son.
