SIGNS AND WONDERS

by Kristine Stanton © 2024

"Immediately after the distress of those days 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken,'" (Matthew 24:29, NIV).

Dear LORD, please save us. . .

"Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,
your lightning lit up the world;
the earth trembled and quaked. . .
LORD, save us! . . .
In your distress you called and I rescued you,
I answered you out of a thundercloud."
(Psalm 77:18, 118:25, 81:7, NIV)

We heard God's thunder in the wind
while crying out in fear.
His lightning struck the Earth with force—
our vision blurred by tears.

Our hearts beat ever rapidly—
we shook from head-to-toe.
Bewildered—we all ran to hide,
from what, we did not know.

And as we watched and listened to
the storm before our eyes,
the world turned dark—no sun, no moon
were present in the skies.

'Tis then the stars began to fall,
as panic stirred each heart.
The storm increased its strength by now
and gave each one a start.

A jolt was felt around the world—
it quaked beneath our feet.
Loud shouts and screams were heard by all—
the evidence—concrete.

We could not see through clouds of smoke—
how could we stop this storm?
We knew not what was happening—
these things had left us torn.

"And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below—blood and fire and clouds of smoke. The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the LORD arrives," (Acts 2:19, 20, NLT).

The signs and wonders God proclaimed
were now before each eye.
The sun was dark—the moon, blood red—
we all could testify.

And as the time did pass us by
another sign appeared.
It's Power, Light, and Glory shone
and then it was made clear. . .

Up in the Heavens—on the clouds
came riding, Son of Man,
and all on Earth began to mourn—
all peoples of all lands.

A trumpet call was heard by all—
and angels were deployed
to gather chosen ones of Christ—
the ones filled with His joy.

This Second Coming was so swift
and many stayed behind.
They missed their opportunity—
Christ's teachings they declined. . .

They missed their chance to know the Truth—
the Truth that Christ conveyed,
and now they suffer great lament
because of choices made.

And those who claimed Christ as their LORD—
who stood firm 'til the end,
were taken Home to live with Him—
eternity they'll spend.
