WHIMPERS THROUGH THE NIGHT

by Kristine Stanton © 2024

"Rescue me, Lord, from evildoers; protect me from the violent. . .Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me," (Psalm 140:1, 142:6, NIV).

With tensions brewing 'round the world
come whimpers through the night—
heart-wrenching sounds from little ones
kept hidden out of sight.

Their fearful whispers can be heard
as fear demands control.
It boasts and steals the children's joy
and peace within their souls.

Anxiety engulfs their hearts
each day and every night,
as bombs disrupt their daily lives
and take away their rights.

Held captive by the chains of fear
from battles raging 'round
they're prey to rifles being fired—
tormented by their sounds.

O' to be so young and innocent
and witness such despair,
and to suffer loss from havoc
is far too much to bear.

There are countless little children
who've witnessed these grave wars.
It's sad to think that they'll be scarred
always and evermore.

So many have been forced to run—
to hide—keep out of sight. . .
Rise up and help these children, LORD—
come make their world all right.

"Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. . .Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love," (Psalm 82:4, 44:26, NIV).
