I once believed that God was found
In someone's elaborate prayer
I used to think it had to be
That I would be finding him there
Doing what others believed was the way
And being the best that I could
Would secure my place in heaven
Or at least I thought it would
Joining the church and making a choice
To sing all their faithful songs
Just had to lift my spirit up
And give me a place to belong
The fact of the matter really is
That I didn't have a clue
Asking God to forgive my sins
Was all that I needed to do
Welcoming him into my heart
While knowing how much he cares
I know that wherever I am today
I will always find him there
There's no need to set aside a time
Or be in a certain place
We can be in the woods, be in our room,
Wherever you are, he'll embrace
There is no formal ritual
But just have a humble heart
Do this, and you'll find him, and heaven, and joy
And you'll never, ever, be apart
