As The Red Wine into the Cup Is Poured

by Royston

Christ the Lamb upon the altar stone.
Christ the sacrifice to atone.
Christ's blood, the wines a token.
Christ the bread that was broken.

As the grapes were crushed to make the wine
so Christ was crushed for those sins of mine.
And as red wine into the cup was poured
so Christ for me His crimson blood outpoured.

Just as the bread was broken that we share
So Christ was broken my sins to bear.
Then, "Father. forgive them," I heard Him cry
so that I might live, He was willing to die.

Such communion sweet took place that day
after which I went upon my way.
But as I left, Jesus was walking by my side
my faithful companion and my guide.
