This Heart Of Stone

by Deborah Ann Belka

He took this heart of stone,
with its coldness deep within
and chiseled away the hardness
that was imbedded with my sin.

He chipped at my conceit,
and hammered out the greed
until my soul was ready
to receive the sower's seed.

It fell upon such fertile soil
and I was ready to receive
the truth sown before me
was so effortless to believe.

My new found faith and grace,
turned into waverings of doubt
I soon began to wander
and to shut the Lord's Word out.

The road I chose to travel on,
had endless joy and gain
the truth that I once knew
now only caused my heart pain.

For years I denied it,
the sin, the lust, the greed
for years I defied it,
the truth, the way, the need.

But this refined heart of stone
finally saw its reckless ways
and He knew that I would return
from my drifting all those days.

And now I am a faithful sower,
and understand the heart of stone
So, I pray you'll let Him carve you
into the image of His very own!
