Almost Home

by Gertrude Jefferies

Soon I will take a journey,
To a land beyond this vale.
The Captain has weighed anchor
And I'm just about to sail.

I'll be traveling with my best Friend,
So I won't have any fears.
We've been planning for this journey,
For many, many years.

I'll need very little luggage
For I won't be coming back.
In this place where I am going
I won't suffer any lack.

When I reach my destination
And the journey's finally o'er,
There'll be many friends to meet me,
Crowded on that heavenly shore.

Then my Captain will present me
In a ceremony grand,
To my Host, the King of heaven
With the nail prints in his hands
