On Life’s Journey

by Gertrude Jefferies

Navigate me through these waters
Till my present course is o'er.
Be my Lighthouse on this journey,
Lest I'm shipwrecked on the shore.

As I started on this journey
Winds were gentle, seas were calm.
Then I saw the dark clouds brewing
And my heart filled with alarm.

The strong currents ever changing
I am battered to and fro,
Be my Chart and be my Compass,
On this journey here below.

Then the storm broke fierce upon me
Waves so high, I almost drowned,
And the swirling eddies
Tried so hard to pull me down.

Then I raised my voice to Heaven,
Called to him who walked the sea,
He alone, could still the tempest,
Jesus Savior, pilot me.

Where this present storm will take me
Or it's end, I do not know.
But I have this blest assurance
He will never let me go.

When at last my storm-tossed vessel
Sails to that eternal shore,
Here, I'll raise my "Ebenezer"
Safe at last, to sail no more
