I?m Not Running Anymore

by Gertrude Jefferies

The enemy told me I had too much sin,
for Jesus to love me or care where I'd been.
He said I'd forever be running from him,
Be forever searching for some peace within.

I wandered in darkness, confused and alone,
So lost and forsaken, no place to call home.
Then one day through the blackness
there beamed a great light,
'twas the light of His love, dispelling my night.

He told me He loved me, and had always cared.
But the weight of my sin had me running scared.
He put His arms round me, pulled me close to Him,
Said, "I love you dearly, I forgive all your sin."

The shame and the weight of the sins I had known,
So heavy to carry, I now laid them down.
I don't run anymore, I walk by His side,
I've peace in my heart now, since Jesus abides.
