IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE

by Gertrude Jefferies

If I should die before I wake,
And not bid you good morning,
Just know for sure that where I am
There'll be a new day dawning.

No clouds, no rain, no foggy skies,
No thunderstorms or gales.
Just one unending cloudless day
Where sunlight never fails.

I won't be tired, or not feel well,
No headaches, pills or pain.
Just being there in perfect health,
I'll have so much to gain.

I'll not know any loneliness,
No tears to dim my eyes,
Just one unending reunion
Where friendship never dies.

If I should die before I wake,
This one thing will be true,
I'll be standing on that golden shore
Keeping watch for you.
