God's Holy Joy

by Deborah Ann Belka

Joy comes in confessing,
when to our sins we own up
after we have heard the truth
and tasted the blood in the cup.

When our sins are made known,
and we take our share of blame
cry out to the Lord and weep
tears of your disgrace and shame.

When before God we come clean,
and get the misery off our chest
joy will come to the tender heart
and in His grace we'll be blessed.

After we've plead to God our guilt,
and we wept over our transgressions
let the joy of the Lord wipe away
all the tears of our sinful digressions.

God calls all of the afflicted souls,
to put on the garment of His stain
and to celebrate and give Him praise
to prove that Christ didn't die in vain.

Our sorrows over our disobedience,
must not hinder our happiness or joy
so rejoice and be forever glad
for your strength is God's holy joy!

Nehemiah 8:9-12

"And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha,
and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the
Levites that taught the people, said
unto all the people, This day is holy
unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor
weep. For all the people wept, when they
heard the words of the law.

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat
the fat, and drink the sweet, and send
portions unto them for whom nothing is
prepared: for this day is holy unto our
Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy
of the Lord is your strength."
