Surrendered for Service

by Gertrude Jefferies

He took the hard unyielding clay
Into his warm and gentle hands
With love and patience kneaded it,
until it yielded to his commands.

Lovingly he watered, and fed it
With the life of his Holy Word
Infused by the Holy Spirit
Prepared it for service to God.

It now stands ready for service
Soft, pliable, yielded and still.
Shaped by the hand of the Potter
Surrendered to the Master's will.

Whatever vessel is needed
Whatever he wants me to be
This, then is my dedication
Here am I, my Master, use me
